[0:00] 20 seconds from here.
[0:02] >> [laughter]
[0:11] >> It might not hurt.
[0:14] >> Oh, yeah.
[0:15] >> [clears throat]
[0:17] >> I was sitting in there yesterday and and
[0:19] I was the week I shared kind of over
[0:21] there.
[0:22] And I kept hearing it. I forgot that
[0:24] speech she had left on [name] in there. I
[0:25] mean, I
[0:26] walked in talking and I said
[0:30] Jesus.
[0:33] >> Good evening, everyone. It is exactly
[0:36] 12:00 and at this time we will open our
[0:38] meeting with an invocation and a pledge.
[0:43] >> Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we come
[0:44] before you this afternoon thanking you
[0:46] for this day. We thank you for the rain
[0:48] that we're receiving now that we needed
[0:50] so
[0:51] so much and we thank you for this
[0:53] opportunity to gather here this
[0:54] afternoon in the city hall and
[0:56] pertaining to
[0:58] um uh business uh Lord God pertaining to
[1:01] our city.
[1:02] And uh Lord, we just pray that you would
[1:04] in all things, not just today, but in
[1:06] all things give us wisdom beyond our
[1:08] experience or our knowledge pertaining
[1:10] to all the things of welfare and growth
[1:13] and uh of our city, Lord.
[1:15] And we just uh thank you today for all
[1:18] your blessings in our life and we give
[1:19] you the praise in Jesus' name. Amen.
[1:24] >> And now we'll do the pledge.
[1:27] >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the
[1:29] United States of America and to the
[1:32] republic for which it stands, one nation
[1:35] under God, indivisible, with liberty and
[1:38] justice for all.
[1:42] >> [clears throat]
[1:43] >> At this time we once again recognize our
[1:46] visitors and I'll read the public
[1:47] comments from the audience. At this time
[1:50] members of the public will be allowed to
[1:51] speak on city related matters only. No
[1:54] personal personnel matters or matters
[1:56] under litigation will be allowed. The
[1:58] length of the time may not exceed 3
[2:00] minutes. Uh city council shall not speak
[2:03] under this term. I'm under this item,
[2:06] I'm sorry. In accordance with the Texas
[2:08] Open Meeting Act, the council may not
[2:10] deliberate deliberate or take action on
[2:13] matters except as properly posted in
[2:15] accordance with the law. With that being
[2:18] said, at this time we're open for public
[2:20] comments.
[2:23] Okay. If we have no public comments,
[2:26] we'll now go to our next item, uh
[2:28] business, consider and approve new
[2:31] street name.
[2:34] >> Mayor and council,
[2:36] um
[2:37] the Lions Club reached out to us. Um
[2:40] actually it was
[2:42] I would say that this discussion has
[2:43] been off and on for the probably 4 or 5
[2:45] years now.
[2:47] Um
[2:47] there was a
[2:49] um
[2:50] a request
[2:52] that
[2:53] Mr. [name] Walter be honored for his um
[2:57] his part that played in the development
[3:01] of the Agrena
[3:02] um and his his work um on the front end
[3:07] of the construction that went on out
[3:08] there in raising the funds and um
[3:12] at that point um
[3:14] no one really took the charge I guess to
[3:17] to say to about the uh the naming of
[3:20] that street.
[3:21] There's a drive as it's in your packets
[3:24] um
[3:25] that is not named.
[3:27] So we don't have to go through a
[3:29] renaming process if a street is already
[3:31] designated and and named um under 911
[3:34] addressing
[3:36] requirements. Uh this is a uh
[3:40] gravel road
[3:42] that's just mainly used along the side
[3:44] of the Agrena from Bradshaw to the
[3:46] parking lot of the Agrena.
[3:49] Um here recently
[3:51] uh the Lions Club came to to us uh about
[3:55] a week ago and then
[3:57] with the Lions Club PRCA Rodeo that's
[4:00] coming up,
[4:02] um
[4:04] >> [snorts]
[4:04] >> uh
[4:05] had a special request that we consider
[4:07] this and do this before that event. So,
[4:10] that's why the reason of a special
[4:11] called meeting so we could take care of
[4:13] the business.
[4:14] Um
[4:16] if uh that and
[4:19] uh we have Mr. uh Steven Wells, um Scott
[4:22] Shelley with the Lions Club here. Uh Mr.
[4:24] Steven Wells um said he'd like to just
[4:26] kind of present this
[4:28] to uh council and if y'all have
[4:30] questions or did you have some more
[4:33] information outside of
[4:35] they he presented a really nice um
[4:40] proposal, introduction, kind of a letter
[4:42] explaining uh Mr. Waldrep's
[4:45] impact on not just our community but our
[4:49] nation as well as his work with the uh
[4:52] Lions Club and the Ag Arena.
[4:55] So, did a really good job about uh
[4:57] presenting the case um
[5:00] for the naming of this. Um
[5:03] I would
[5:05] mention or request that council consider
[5:07] if we were to name it um
[5:10] um that we name it after the last name,
[5:15] Waldrep Road and not um first and last
[5:19] name.
[5:20] Um but I'm okay if y'all decide to do
[5:22] else,
[5:23] you know, if if y'all need it if y'all
[5:25] do decide to name it James
[5:28] Waldrep, um
[5:31] um
[5:32] we don't have a lot of names we don't
[5:34] have a lot of a lot of streets
[5:37] in town so it would change up some of
[5:39] our
[5:40] um
[5:42] categorizing of streets if we have two
[5:44] names to deal with.
[5:48] Um
[5:50] I don't know if y'all have questions
[5:52] >> I would
[5:52] >> or discussion.
[5:54] >> He was I thought I thought he was going
[5:56] to give up.
[5:57] >> I I'd be more than happy to
[5:59] answer your questions and then provide
[6:00] any other
[6:03] >> Oh yeah, we're we're and then we're
[6:05] delivered.
[6:06] >> This is probably recording. You can
[6:07] probably hear me better this way.
[6:10] Again, I'm Stephen Wells, president of
[6:12] the Crockett Lions Club.
[6:13] Um
[6:14] this proposal
[6:16] what James was mentioning.
[6:18] Let me start over.
[6:19] Ms. Mayor
[6:20] and council person
[6:21] >> Evening.
[6:23] >> Good afternoon. Um
[6:25] we appreciate this special session
[6:28] to address uh proposed naming of the
[6:32] service road that runs alongside the
[6:34] Four States Arena um
[6:36] and our
[6:37] request to have it named as the James
[6:39] Waldrip Service Road. Um understanding
[6:42] that there may be some constraints. Um
[6:45] if James is dropped from it
[6:48] you know, if we could at least maintain
[6:50] the service part of it um
[6:54] kind of in a in a dual nature. One
[6:56] because it is a service road between
[6:58] Bradshaw and the parking lot and also
[7:00] accesses the back side of the arena. But
[7:02] two because of James Waldrip's service
[7:04] not only to the Lions Club but to the
[7:07] county, the city uh the nation
[7:10] >> [clears throat]
[7:11] >> and his years of service.
[7:14] We we just wanted to direct to this
[7:17] So, with that I mean there's a couple
[7:20] questions that I'd be more than happy to
[7:21] answer or
[7:23] >> Okay.
[7:25] Well
[7:26] Now, what why are you saying you you
[7:29] would rather just do what why why both?
[7:32] >> Uh the dual names
[7:33] >> question, too.
[7:34] >> It's just going to change the
[7:36] on our uh listing of streets. All of our
[7:38] streets are um um, primarily single name
[7:42] roads. Um, it changes the It changes the
[7:45] types of signs that we have to install.
[7:48] Um, the posts for the sign. Just Those
[7:51] are some things that council needs to
[7:54] be aware of. I'm okay either way. I
[7:55] would just recommend that council at
[7:57] least
[7:58] >> I just think if we're going to honor
[8:00] James Waldrep, and he has all these many
[8:03] years served uh
[8:04] not only Lions Club but our community. I
[8:06] I I just think if we're going to do it
[8:09] because there's other people with the
[8:10] last names of Waldrep.
[8:13] Uh
[8:14] >> That makes That makes sense. I'm just I
[8:15] want council to be aware of it. Yeah.
[8:17] You know, if we're going to do it, just
[8:19] be aware of it.
[8:20] >> I would just I personally would like for
[8:22] it to be named James Waldrep.
[8:25] >> And service is sort of like a double
[8:27] entendre, correct?
[8:28] >> Yes, sir. Yes. Meaning that it is a
[8:30] service road and all of his service that
[8:32] he has since 1960.
[8:36] >> Yeah.
[8:37] Yeah.
[8:39] Okay.
[8:42] >> So, the
[8:44] Okay.
[8:45] So, you're saying in the entire name
[8:47] would be James Waldrep Service Road?
[8:51] That would be the whole name on the
[8:53] deal?
[8:54] >> That That That would be the intent. I
[8:56] mean, if it's
[8:57] >> It's a spider or something falling down.
[8:59] >> But, how much uh I mean, how many times
[9:02] would that
[9:04] would the would the name be spoken? I
[9:06] mean, yeah. You know, I mean, how many
[9:08] times would it be used in in
[9:10] circumstances and situations other than
[9:13] just being posted as James Waldrep
[9:15] Service Road?
[9:16] >> Right.
[9:19] And And that's that's completely fine.
[9:21] It departs from our normal, just like
[9:22] Bradshaw, you know, James Bradshaw.
[9:26] You know,
[9:27] it's Bradshaw Street. Everything is
[9:31] pretty much um directed towards
[9:34] the recognition, but not the entire
[9:36] name. Um, so it just departs from some
[9:38] of our
[9:39] current usage, but it's not a problem at
[9:41] all. I mean, it however council decides.
[9:43] >> Yeah. But, I guess if my
[9:46] if the full name, good with it. The
[9:48] service road is another element. Are we
[9:51] going to start naming them all
[9:53] of what they are? I mean, just thinking
[9:55] out loud.
[9:55] >> Well, there's
[9:56] there's
[9:57] >> would be the
[9:58] be the Delpha. When they said, you know,
[10:01] like I said, when they speak his name,
[10:02] they're going to know his history.
[10:04] I mean, cuz of I mean, the first thing,
[10:06] even though the service is going to
[10:08] automatically [clears throat] pop up
[10:09] when you review what he was. So, we go
[10:11] with the full name, it would be no doubt
[10:14] of who he was and what he did. That
[10:16] would always follow through.
[10:17] >> Well, I'd like to just go ahead and make
[10:19] a motion we
[10:21] name the road James Walter Service Road.
[10:24] >> I second.
[10:27] >> Okay, it's been moved and second.
[10:31] All in favor?
[10:33] This is carried.
[10:35] >> Thank you.
[10:36] >> Thank you.
[10:39] >> [snorts]
[10:41] >> All right.
[10:44] >> If I may mayor, I'd like to make a
[10:46] statement.
[10:46] >> Yeah, we have we can have general
[10:48] comments, but not related to
[10:50] >> Mhm.
[10:51] So, um
[10:52] this [clears throat] past uh
[10:54] it was past week or so ago, uh I'd like
[10:57] to
[10:58] like to thank [name] for allowing me to go
[11:00] to the uh
[11:01] How is it pronounced it? GFO?
[11:04] >> GFO?
[11:05] >> Yeah. Um so, that that um conference and
[11:09] it gave me a whole lot of
[11:11] enlightenment onto how [name] operates the
[11:15] uh the items and some of the um
[11:19] some of the functionalities that he has
[11:21] to deal with running the city, and it
[11:22] gave me a new enlightenment of how he
[11:25] needs help. And what he needs help with.
[11:28] Um we we sat and we talked about that to
[11:31] to
[11:32] Um and also I'd like to thank uh being a
[11:35] member of Keep Crockett Beautiful and
[11:37] and Crockett Lions Club um
[11:40] the city for allowing us to uh
[11:43] adhere to some projects that we have in
[11:45] the city that we're looking forward to.
[11:47] Of course, you know we're working me and
[11:49] uh Mr. Shirley here are working with
[11:51] flags and uh we we look forward to um
[11:56] sort of like broadening some
[11:57] beautification around the city with that
[11:59] as well. So, thank you.
[12:01] >> My only comment is today is that you
[12:03] know it's a good city that you come in
[12:05] and they recognize people for long term.
[12:08] We have so many community dedicated
[12:11] people. I know we can't name them all,
[12:13] but when we go through it we had a list.
[12:15] So, we do them one at a time and we'll
[12:17] remember them cuz when you say the Lions
[12:19] Club there's a whole lot of names that
[12:20] fall under him that he worked with
[12:22] service. And so, it I think it's really
[12:24] important that we not forget what the
[12:27] foundation was.
[12:28] >> Right.
[12:29] >> And any opportunity that we have to
[12:31] honor people that have done major things
[12:33] in our city. I know we might miss some,
[12:36] but people would say oh they were there
[12:37] they were there. And so, when you even
[12:39] with this recognition it comes with the
[12:42] Lions Club it comes with so many other
[12:45] other segments.
[12:46] >> Yes.
[12:46] >> And that's what we want. I I know we
[12:48] can't honor everybody name by name, but
[12:50] when you can honor and they're
[12:52] representing whole segments of the
[12:54] community that have helped helped and
[12:57] are helping and will continue to help be
[13:00] a We really appreciate that and so,
[13:02] we're grateful. We're grateful to live
[13:04] in a city where people recognize what
[13:07] others are doing and I think that's what
[13:09] the city grows from.
[13:12] You pour in that and give me a hand.
[13:14] >> [laughter]
[13:15] >> But thank you so much. I will appreciate
[13:18] you.
[13:19] Uh and we're nothing else can say. We'll
[13:22] see.
[13:23] >> Motion to adjourn.
[13:24] >> I second.
[13:26] >> Third, fourth, fifth.
[13:28] >> Third, fourth, fifth.
[13:28] >> [laughter]
[13:30] >> That's good now.
[13:32] I like it. I like the lump.
[13:34] I recognize you.
[13:36] >> I had to do it.
[13:38] >> You forget back then language
[13:40] >> Matter of fact, I was a member of the
[13:41] Lions.
[13:43] I just never got to
[13:45] That's what I do.
[13:46] >> I don't want to break your
[13:47] >> Thank you very much.
[13:48] >> That's what I told him.
[13:49] >> There's a lot
[13:49] >> That's what I'm being It's been a while,
[13:51] baby.
[13:52] >> I don't actually do it.
[13:54] >> Okay.
[13:56] >> Yeah.
[13:56] >> That we celebrate
[13:57] >> No, no, I got you.
